Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, popularly known by his stage name "Black Coffee", is a South African DJ, record producer, songwriter, and entrepreneur. Despite having been in the music industry since 1995, his career took off in 2003 when he joined the Red Bull Music Academy and became known for his deep, soulful house music compilations. In 2022, the famed South African DJ made history at the Grammys when his seventh studio album Subconsciously, made him the first African artist to win an award in the best dance/electronic album category. Black Coffee handles his deals through Flightmode Digital, a venture capital firm he set up in 2017. The firm which says it seeks to invest in early-stage businesses operating in video content creation and production and software development has backed several startups, including Yoco, a South African payments startup, SweepSouth, a cleaning and home service startup, and Rensource, a renewable energy company.
